It has such an amazing community, close to the city without being ~too close~ that it's gross and busy. obviously late night is a time to avoid most places, esp if u r alone.looking at things from a single female point of view, i would take care at the southern end of george st in the so called entertainment district at night.i would avoid the "red light" area of kings cross at night.and i would treat redfern as a no go area any time, not that that area has any attraction for tourists anyway.don't go into hyde park at night time; or as was previously mentioned, the george st cinema districtthe advice given basally ocvers it - though I'd be alert in the crowded streets, and at underground city circle rail stations at lunch time and afternoon rush hour as the vast numbers of city workers rushing about would make pickpocket/bag snatch activity easy.
