after hearing of the article. There's plenty of bluff and double bluff and our virtually omnipresent protagonist always manThe Satan Bug by Alistair MacLean is an old fashioned spy romp, with an agent sent, somewhat circuitously, to investigate and recover a deadly virus from a top secret chemical research establishment. The readers of The Satan Bug will continue to follow Cavell Investigations to find out what happens.Great mystery thriller with nonstop action and suspenseful plot twists. Apparently, he was soon found out and the books issued under his name.
When SatanBug is executed, it installs itself in memory. Not much depth to the characters, and this is action and pace over style and depth. My father has a pile of these books that he hasn't read in some time, so I borrowed a couple (this one and Interesting to see that biological weapons were as much of a threat 50 years ago as they are today. I was a huge fan of MacLean as a kid and teenager.
Yes it's what would now be known as a "mashup" with all the attending flaws of those books. It is so virulent that it kills within a few seconds. View/set parent page (used for creating breadcrumbs and structured layout). But this book isn't cheesy. At first, they were not sure was it murder or suicide until they found out a deadly virus had disappeared. Cavell is handed the case of his life when Mordon's current security chief is found murdered on-site, one of its head scientists disappears...and eight vials containing deadly botulinus toxin AND the so-called Satan Bug (a strain of the polio viIn the book, the reader makes the acquaintance of Pierre Cavell, the former head of security at the Mordon (I love that name, with its almost subliminal suggestion of death!) Lee Barrett, a private investigator and former intelligence agent discharged for his outspoken views, is approached by a man with a tempting offer to join a political organization opposing bioweapons. Edit I had almost forgotten this book, but after reviewing The Golden Rendezvous and The Last Frontier, I thought I would look up the list of Alistair Maclean books and lo and behold, I found this book - which I had completely forgotten. Top class thriller. It deletes files named VS.VS and CHKLIST.CPS. MacLean's source novel, as it turns out, is a wholly different proposition entirely. The book's starting drags on like crazy and you'll feel like keeping the book aside and never finishing it...I recall seeing the film of this novel back in the 1960s, a viewing which first drew my attention to the threat of biological weapons as a form of warfare. For whatever reason he decided to write under an alias. I personally haven't read the two you suggested there. No reason for the sellout has ever been given. The Satan Bug is a novel and movie from the 1960's about a biological virus that escapes from a lab.
Even that doesn't quite live up to the promise of the title though. Barrett discovers two genetically altered “super strains” have been stolen from the lab: one an Ebola-like form of botulinus which oxidizes then dissipates eight hours after being released, and another nicknamed “The Satan Bug” which refuses to oxidize and can therefore, if released, spread unchallenged across the globe, creating a viral plague of biblical proportions (… and keep in mind this was over a decade … Wikidot.com Terms of Service - what you can, what you should not etc. The virus does not intentionally damage files or the computer, but may still cause some problems. The movie is entertaining, but Alistair MacClean’s book is far more visceral and fast-paced.
It has long surprised me that this picture--despite featuring two of my favorite performers, Anne Francis and Richard Basehart--is a rather pedestrian, somewhat dull affair, and on the whole, a fairly unmemorable experience.
