The Art On Bundjalung Market is a free event for people in the community that will begin with a Welcome to Country, dancing from the Nini Nahri-Gali Dance Troupe and include local music and weaving circles.
The free family event was a unique opportunity to purchase authentic Indigenous artwork and to meet the makers. The project aims to improve health and wellbeing by connecting Aboriginal people to culture through creative art activities.
The project included a workshop series delivered by Aboriginal artists for Aboriginal communities across the region and sought to improve health outcomes through arts programs designed to promote and share culture”. The exhibition will feature over 200 artworks from local Indigenous artists.The aim of the exhibition is to showcase local Indigenous talent, sell the artworks and thus provide income to the artists.Ive been painting and putting Koori designs on terracotta pots since 1988, but since I retired Ive been able to devote more time to my art, Kath said. The Art On Bundjalung Market will showcase and celebrate the creative cultural heritage of the Bundjalung region.Arts Northern Rivers is taking stall bookings from both established and emerging Indigenous artists producing handmade arts and crafts and employing traditional and contemporary materials including weaving, ceramics, carving, photography, painting and textiles.The Market will be held in Lismore’s new creative outdoor space, The Quad, from 10am – 4pm on 1 June 2019.Art On Bundjalung Market will be an opportunity for audiences to see, experience and purchase incredible work being produced by artists of the Bundjalung region NSW and offer a unique chance to ‘meet the makers’, hear your stories and share your culture.This will be a significant opportunity to extend your audience and sell your work.All Indigenous artists from, or who have a strong connection to, the Bundjalung region are encouraged to book a stall!The stall fee includes a 3m x 3m marquee, 1 x table and 1 x chair, P/L insurance.Registration is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, artisans, craft makers, community art galleries.Healthy North Coast acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands across our region and pays respect to the Elders past, present and emerging.
