Bridgetown police officer-in-charge Sgt Phillip Nation received a medal for 30 years of service, while Donnybrook police customer service officer Linda Atherton received a medal for 15 years of service.Mr Dawson paid tribute to both recipients for their service.“Phil Nation has a great reputation and I don’t say it just because I’m here,” he said.“Phil is a very, very good officer and I have full confidence that under the likes of Phil we have a really sound leader in the Bridgetown community.Sgt Nation said it was huge honour to be presented the medal by the commissioner.“You don’t do it for service medals or anything else, but it is fantastic to be recognised, especially when you have someone like the commissioner coming down to do it for us,” he said.“I still love putting the uniform on after 30 years and I'll continue to do it for as long as I can.“It’s just a privilege — especially in our towns down this way — to serve our community and be part of our community.”Mr Dawson said Mrs Atherton’s role was important in the police force.“She’s the public face when people come to the front counter of that police station, she’s more than likely going to be the first person the community see, so everyone has an important role and I commend them for the work they do, it’s so important in the community that we serve.”Donnybrook police officer-in-charge Matt Fogarty said Mrs Atherton’s service had been exemplary.“She is an asset to any person who becomes involved with the police station, but also they can contact her and speak with her over the phone or in person at the station,” he said.“She’s extremely knowledgeable and helpful across the board with regards with anything to do with our community.”Police commissioner Chris Dawson seals the presentation of the Police Service medal to Sgt Phillip Nation of Bridgetown with an elbow shake.The West Live.
