Tailored after the prior-generation Mercedes E-Class suspension, it doesn’t lend a connected feeling with the road, bobbing up and down on undulating highways and becoming squirrely over midcorner expansion joints. The demand was high and 96,100 Dodge Chargers were actually produced.The third generation Charger was introduced for the 1971 model year. For 2010, the previously optional side curtain airbags are now standard. The 1975 model year Charger continued as a B body car and was restyled. These included a 6.4L engine with 470 HP, four piston Brembo calipers, slotted rotors, paddle shifters, SRT launch features (such as 0-60 timing, Live G-Force readings, and ¼ and ⅛ mile drag timers), custom seat embroidery, and more. That’s not bad for a 4,160-pound car. Reliability has been so-so on the V-6 Charger, with V-8 models faring a bit worse. Back in the automaker’s mid-decade glory days, the Mercedes-engineered Charger and its Chrysler 300 sibling stole the show.
